The 2nd international conference Science for the Environment 2013 will take place in Aarhus, Denmark, on 3-4 October 2013.

The purpose of the conference is to provide input to the European Commission on the future research needs in Horizon 2020.

The Conference is being organized by Aarhus University together with the Partnership for European Environmental Research (PEER). It will bring together scientists, Ph.D. students, administrators, managers, representatives of industry and non-governmental organizations as well as decision-makers working on the topics encompassed by the Climate Action and Resource Efficiency challenge.

The conference organizers are calling for abstracts within the three major themes:

  • Climate action: mitigation and adaptation
  • Resource efficiency: natural resources, ecosystems, raw materials
  • Green economy: eco-innovation

During the conference, conference participants will be able to show how their field of research can support solutions of the grand challenges facing society, to help shape the future European Research Agenda in Horizon 2020, as well as to meet potential partners for future Horizon 2020 calls.

The Partnership for European Environmental Research (PEER) will take the collected advice of the conference to the Commission and communicate the views of the research community to DG Research in November 2013, to incorporate these in  the process of developing and improving the strategic research agenda of Horizon 2020.

The deadline for contributions and registration will expectedly be the end of April 2013.
